Commerce & revenue / Build playbook
Find the orders that need you.
Give your team a clear queue of order and payment exceptions, with enough context to act.
An example implementation plan, not a preinstalled app or a customer case study.
- 01Store + payments
- 02Exception queue
- 03Reviewed resolution
The build plan
- 01
Choose the first exception
Start with one problem, such as an order awaiting an internal fulfillment review. Agree on the owner and what a resolved item means.
- 02
Map the sources accurately
Connect a test store and Stripe test data. Only join payments when your checkout uses that Stripe account and you have a reliable order-to-payment reference. Shopify Payments is not a blanket promise of direct Stripe access.
- 03
Build the review queue
Create an order detail view with source links, status, assigned owner, notes, and the next action. Keep a visible last-refresh time and a separate connection-error state.
- 04
Notify without moving money
Send selected exceptions to Slack with a link to the record. Keep refunds, cancellations, and fulfillment changes manual until permissions and approvals have been reviewed.
- 05
Verify events and recovery
Validate webhook signatures where events are used, deduplicate deliveries, and reconcile against the provider's current record. Test late payments and a temporarily unavailable source.
Before it goes live
- An unmatched payment is flagged, never silently assigned to a customer.
- Replayed events do not create duplicate exceptions or notifications.
- A viewer cannot issue a refund or change fulfillment.
Start with this prompt
Paste into Scout, then adapt it to your team. Do not paste credentials or private customer data.
Build an order exception desk using Shopify Admin API, Stripe, and Slack. Start in test mode with read-only data. Show order context, matched payment status, assigned owner, source links, and a visible sync timestamp. Only match Stripe payments through an explicit stored order reference; do not assume every Shopify payment is accessible in Stripe. Add a reviewed Slack alert. Verify incoming events and handle duplicates, delayed updates, missing matches, and permission failures. Do not automate refunds or fulfillment.
